Future Female Leaders “Step” Into Fundraising Milestone

TORONTO, ON – On Sunday August 30, 2020, EmpowHERto celebrated fundraising success with its first all-day Walkathon campaign.

Starting at 12:00 a.m. and ending at 11:59 p.m., participants were encouraged to get their steps in and walk their way towards building independence, leadership and confidence – EmpowHERto’s three main pillars.

Once registered, users set a kilometer and dollar amount in which they would like to walk and raise. Donations were collected and kilometers were sponsored through participants’ social network. For only a ten-dollar donation, participants also received a goodie “swag” bag with an EmpowHERto Walkathon t-shirt and two delicious cookies from local business Caufield Cakery. Proceeds also went towards the fundraiser.

The top three fundraisers were awarded with prizes from over twenty local businesses who sponsored their Toronto goods and services. Participant Luis E raised a $515, winning eight prizes. Maggie G raised $253, winning six prizes at second place and Lamiya A raised $90, winning five prizes at third place. EmpowHERto also awarded a surprise prize to Anisa J, who came in at fourth place.

The non-profit organization utilized the reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and social distancing guidelines by creating a fun, inclusive way to participate in the fundraiser through the hashtag #EmpowHERtoWalkathon. Participants were featured on the organization’s Instagram Story and remains in their Highlights.

EmpowHERto’s fundraising goal was $1,000. With fifty participants and over 308.75 kilometers walked, the organization more than doubled its Walkathon goal by raising a grand total of $2,103.

“We would like to extend a big and warm thank you to all those who participated and donated! Together we made a difference in the lives of our future female leaders,” said Tenisha Jones, Head of Fundraising at EmpowHERto. “We couldn’t have done it without you. See you again next year!”
